Manoj Tiwary has unleashed a blistering assault on head coach Gautam Gambhir accusing him of being a hypocrite and alleging the two-time world cup winner of using “PR” to take credit of Kolkata Knight Riders’ IPL triumph. Tiwary and Gambhir have shared dressing room both for Indian cricket and in IPL for KKR as well.
The two share a fiery history, having almost come to blows during a Ranji Trophy match in 2015 in Delhi
“Gambhir didn’t lead KKR to the glory single-handedly. We all performed together,” Tiwary said to News18 Bangla. “Jacques Kallis, Sunil Narine and I, all played a part in it. But who took the credit? There is such an environment and PR that allows him to take all credit.”
Tiwary had addressed these statements in the wake of India’s trip to Australia, where they crashed to a 1-3 defeat and consequently lost the Border-Gavaskar trophy.
“Gautam Gambhir is a hypocrite,” Tiwary said. “He doesn’t mean it when he says it. The captain is from Mumbai; he isn’t from there. There is no one to speak for Jalaj Saxena. He could do well but is quiet all the time. What is the use of a bowling coach? Whatever the coach says, he will agree. Morne Morkel came from Lucknow Super Giants. Abhishek Nayar was at Kolkata Knight Riders with Gambhir and the Indian head coach knows that he will not go against his instructions.”
Gambhir has been very much burdened as the latest catastrophe-a combination of events in Australia-has made it impossible for India to step into the finals of the ICC World Test Championship since it began. before that last year saw the historic Test series whitewash against New Zealand.
India will next have the company of England and host them for eight white-ball matches-five T20Is and three ODIs. After this, they will be off to Dubai for the Champions Trophy next month.
