Formula 2 Testing 2026 | Day One Round Up

A Quiet Morning Session for Day 1

The chilly morning in Barcelona saw the first roll out of the season for the 2026 Formula 2 season. The tracks were clear and system checks were complete.

Slow and Steady Starts

The first hour of the session were tested by the drivers with no lap times set. However, MP Motorsport set the inaugural lap times, with Oliver Goethe and Gabriele Minì respectively posting 1:33.803 and 1:26.375.

Trouble for Tsolov

Nikola Tsolov, the rookie for Campos Racing, came to a halt during testing; consequently, officials deployed the first red flag of the session.

Rookie Chart Topper for the AM

Rodin Motorsports’ Martinius Stenshorne 1:25.437 leaves him fastest of all in the morning followed by teammate Alex Dunne with a 1:25.452 and MP Motorsports’ Mini with 1:25.602.

Green flags for the Afternoon

Formula 2 returns for the afternoon session of the testing, with drivers setting out their laps immediately. The time-setter of the morning session, Stenshorne leads the pack again for the afternoon.

Red Flag Cuts Stints

Teams capitalized on the uninterrupted session, focusing on race pace and subsequently completing extended 20-minute stints before officials stopped the session. Invicta Racing’s Joshua Dürksen suffered from a spin in turn 3, bringing out the second red flag of the day.

Session Green Flagged

With one hour on the clock ART’s Tasanapol Inthraphuvasak posts a new personal best and moves into the top five with a 1:26.504. Dürksen returns back to the top after his spin with an impressive 1:25.274 on soft tyres.

Red Flagged End for the Session

The final 10 minutes of the session came to a stop with a red flag. PREMA Racing’s Sebastian Montoya taking a hit in the gravel at turn 1. Officials raised the red flag and ran out of time to resume the session, confirming Campos Racing’s Noel León as the fastest on Day 1 with a 1:24.370. Nicolás Varrone and Joshua Dürksen followed closely behind.

Formula 2 testing returns tomorrow at 9am local time.
