Fort Gibson 2025-26: Inside Look and Season Preview

Fort Gibson is coming off one of their best season’s in program history. They won their first regional title, had three state finalists, one champ, and all are back and shooting for more this season.

Trenton Bell won his first state title last season, while his brother Brendan finished second along with HWT Stevie Vafeas. The trio have a shot a history this season as all three have a chance to win it this year with Brendan having an opportunity to eventually become the school’s first 3-time champion. Tuttle’s dominance in 4A is no secret, and last year’s dual state runners-up, Bristow have a deep roster returning. But anything above fourth place as a team would be a record for the school’s highest finish at the state tournament.

Sammy Johnson is a Fort Gibson guy through and through. He grew up and graduated from there in 2004. His focus had been football growing up, with wrestling being a bit of a backdrop. He played college football at Haskell, then later UCO, but learned a lot under former coach Gabe Ellis and has done his best to soak up wrestling knowledge in every area he can. Using an open minded attitude, he takes diligent notes at every camp he goes to, studies video online, and surrounds himself with good assistants. That combined with great community/administrative support have helped get Fort Gibson to where they are. Coming off a historic 2024-25 season and poised for more in 2025-26.
