Forza Horizon 6’s Japan map revealed in full

Get ready to explore Japan in Forza Horizon 6’s “most dense and vertical map yet.”

Ahead of its launch next month, Playground Games has revealed Forza Horizon 6’s full map set in Japan, one of the most requested locations.

Showcased in a social media post, the location is said to be the “most dense and vertical map yet,” encompassing the snowy Japanese Alps, rural countryside and the Tokyo capital city.

From the screenshot, the environment looks noticeably bigger and more varied than Forza Horizon 5’s Mexico map, with Playground Games claiming it’s the “largest map in a Horizon game yet.”

The version shown is also from the Summer Season, implying that additional areas may be accessible in different seasons. This was the case in Forza Horizon 4, where snowy winter weather allowed players to drive over frozen lakes. Dynamic seasons will bring more noticeable changes than Forza Horizon 5’s Mexico, from changing landscapes to variable weather.

While it looks small compared to the surrounding map, Forza Horizon 6’s Tokyo is said to be “very diverse” and five times larger than any previous urban area. Split into four districts, the city area is so vast that it required a dedicated development team.

“We have a team making our city specifically, and a lot of that is: it’s our biggest city we’ve ever made,” Art Director Don Arceta revealed in a recent interview with IGN. “It’s so layered and so detailed – much more than anything we’ve done in the past.”

“To make Tokyo City for Forza Horizon, we really need a dedicated team. It covers everything from roads, buildings, foliage, terrain; Tokyo has all of it. It’s just such a big biome that it just warranted its own team.”

Playground Games considered Japan as a location for previous Forza Horizon games. With the series dropping the last-generation Xbox One, the team is confident the experience will meet player expectations.

“Each location offers new challenges, and obviously new gameplay and new experiences, but, for this one, Japan had a lot of challenges that we had to figure out and approach and try to solve,” said Arceta. “And that was one of the things that, at least for myself, intrigued me to tackle Japan as a location.”

Some eagle-eyed fans have also spotted what appears to be layouts of real-world Japanese racetracks, including Tsukuba and the twisty Mt. Akina made famous by Initial D.

Forza Horizon 6 is set to release on 19th May for PC and Xbox Series X|S with over 550 cars at launch. A PS5 version will follow later in 2026.

Look out for Traxion’s hands-on preview landing later today at 2 pm BST.
