Mohammed Shami experienced an injury scare during Bengal’s Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy match against Madhya Pradesh on Friday at the Niranjan Shah Stadium in Rajkot.
While defending a 190-run target in the penultimate over, Shami fell while attempting to stop the ball and immediately appeared uncomfortable, clutching his lower back.

Shami was quickly looked at by Nitin Patel, the head of the medical team from the Centre of Excellence, who ran onto the field to check on him.
After receiving brief treatment, Shami stood up and resumed bowling, completing his remaining five deliveries. Despite his efforts, Bengal lost the match in the final over.
According to ESPNcricinfo, a member of the Bengal support staff later confirmed that Shami was “fine” after the incident, and that he was in good condition.
Shami’s Mixed Return to Competitive Cricket
Mohammed Shami has been in mixed form since his return to competitive cricket, having picked up four wickets in his first four games in SMAT. He recorded a best of 3 for 21 in a match-winning effort against Hyderabad, though he has remained wicketless in two of those outings.

Before the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy, Shami made a strong comeback in the Ranji Trophy, taking seven wickets in a match against Madhya Pradesh. This marked his first match since the 2023 ODI World Cup final, a key step in his recovery from an ankle injury.
Shami’s recent injury scare follows a long recovery process after being sidelined since the ODI World Cup. Earlier this year, he underwent surgery for his ankle injury, which kept him out of action for several months.
His return to the field is a positive sign for both Bengal and Indian cricket, with Shami set to play a vital role in the upcoming matches as his fitness continues to improve.
