G2 Partners With NORD Esports for Tier-2 LoL Competition

Berlin-based esports organization G2 announced Tuesday that it has partnered with NORD Esports to launch a new team focused on League of Legends esports called G2 NORD.

Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed.

Under this new strategic partnership, the new team will compete in the official DACH EMEA Regional League (ERL) Prime League. G2 also announced that insurance services firm LVM Versicherung will be supporting G2 NORD as a founding partner.

The goal of this new team, according to G2’s announcement, is to “build the strongest League of Legends team in Germany, establish itself as a top EMEA Masters contender, and develop high-potential players within G2’s established competitive framework.” Ultimately, the team will serve as an incubator of sorts for young talent, or as “a high-performance academy environment,” to create a “path to pro” for young players.

From the very beginning, G2 has always had the ambition to build a truly global organization, one that captures hearts and minds of fans all over the world,” said Alban Dechelotte, CEO of G2. “That journey has allowed us to grow beyond anything we imagined, but along the way, we may not always have given enough love to some of our closest fans, especially in Germany. With initiatives like Kings League Germany and now G2 NORD, we want to change that in a meaningful way. This project is about reconnecting, listening, and building something that German fans can truly call their own. We want to give them more G2 to cheer for, and to create moments and stories they can be proud of. Our hope is that through G2 NORD, even more fans in Germany will feel fully part of the G2ARMY. Los geht’s!”

For the inaugural season of competition, G2 NORD will feature the following roster:

  • Top: Francesco “Shelfmade” Cardia
  • Jungle: Mark “Markoon” van Woensel
  • Mid: Alex “Toasty” Chea
  • AD Carry: Khalil “Rin” Sahraoui
  • Support: Timo “Tockimo” Bock
  • Head Coach: Nicolas Perez

Further details about this new project will be revealed in the days and weeks ahead, as this new roster prepares for its first foray into competition under the G2 banner.
