Game Over as Ring Veteran Vaughn Alexander Hits the End of the Road the Hard Way

With 39 pro bouts at age 39, Vaughn ‘The Animal’ Alexander, 19-18-2 with 12 knockouts, Saint Louis, Missouri, is a 21-year ring veteran with a long ring history.
Promoted by Don King as a tremendous rising prospect at the time, Alexander began his career as a junior middleweight on December 10, 2004, with a third-round stoppage of 3-5 Juan Montes de Oca of Mexico at Mandalay Bay Resort & Casino in Las Vegas. Alexander opened his career with 12 consecutive wins, ranging from several first-round knockouts to a 10-round decision win.
However, Alexander spent 12 years in prison between 2004 and 2016 for armed robbery and assaulting a police officer. The sentence had originally been for 18 years. Upon release from incarceration, Alexander won nine of his next 12 bouts as a super middleweight, losing only three decisions in the higher weight class.
From 2019 on, as a light heavyweight, Alexander went 4-15-2, unable to win his last eight decisions consecutively, going 0-7-1 before getting knocked out in the first round by Atif Oberlton in a cruiserweight bout. Of his last nine opponents, eight of them had a combined record of 75-0. The other opponent he lost a decision to was middleweight gatekeeper Gabriel Rosado, a fighter with 28 wins.
On December 6, 2025, Alexander got counted out at 2:34 of the first round by referee Dave Braslow at 2300 Arena in Philadelphia. A crisp right hand from the rising Marshal Kauffman prospect southpaw Atif Oberlton sent Alexander to the canvas unconscious. All of the ring battles and the effects of both hard time and father time had taken their final toll. In the end, Vaughn Alexander finally hit the end of the road the hard way.
