The Wagner Seahawks arrive in Washington having navigated a demanding early-season schedule, including competitive road games against VCU, Seton Hall, Fordham, and an overtime loss to UMBC. This stretch of contests shows the Seahawks are prepared to compete despite their current 0-4 record.

The team is currently led by Interim Head Coach Dwan McMillan, who was named to the position in October as Head Coach Donald Copeland serves a suspension.

McMillan spent two seasons at Fordham, where he helped guide the Rams to a 25-win season in 2022-23. Hoyas fans have heard that staff changes can often galvanize a visiting team, requiring Georgetown to maintain focus.

The Seahawks’ production has been concentrated in their backcourt, led by two junior guards.

  • Nick Jones (#0, G, Jr.) paces the team in scoring, averaging 12.3 points per game, and also leads the team in steals.
  • Eduardo “Eddie” Placer (#7, G, Jr.) is right behind him, adding 12.0 points per contest and providing a threat from distance, leading the team in three-point field goals made per game.

In the distribution role, Redshirt Senior guard Jaden Baker (#9) leads in assists, leading Wagner with 3.5 assists per game.

Inside, sophomore forwards Binael Basil (#22) and Zavier Fitch (#1) provide the size and rebounding. Basil leads the team with 5.0 rebounds per game, while Fitch is a consistent presence inside, averaging 4.5 rebounds.

Many of the Georgetown faithful have said they sense a renewed energy in the program, fueled by the efforts of Coach Ed Cooley, who enters his third season leading the program. Guards like Malik Mack, KJ Lewis, and Jeremiah Williams give the team versatility, but the frontcourt rotation will face a challenge.

Senior center and transfer Vince Iwuchukwu (7-1, 257) is scheduled to undergo a medical procedure and will miss six to eight weeks. Iwuchukwu was providing significant production off the bench, averaging 11.8 points, 4.0 rebounds, and 2.0 blocks through the first four games.

With Iwuchukwu out, the post responsibilities will fall heavily on sophomore center Julius Halaifonua, along with sophomore forward Jayden Fort and sophomore center Seal Diouf. Hoyas fans have heard that the team is focused on building consistency and using its strong group of players to control the tempo of games, and this situation presents an immediate test of the roster’s depth under the third-year coach as they continue their pursuit of better results.
