I must admit I have never used a long grip before and when I saw these grips I was pretty excited. I generally use a heavier mallet style putter and when I learned a longer grip could help with the balance I had to try it.
The grips are from Garsen Golf, and their Ultimate 17 and Quad Tour Pistol PRO 17 and without question long. Both measured 17 inches and had a great feel to them. The difference is that the Ultimate 17 is a more rounded grip whereas the Quad Tour Pistol Pro 17 has a flat top part. Which one you like is really based on personal preference and I tried them both and see which one performed better for me.
I put the Garsen Golf Ultimate 17 on a Taylormade mallet putter, and the Grasen Golf Quad Tour Pistol PRO 17 on my Wilson mallet putter. I use both putters depending on course conditions, as the TaylorMade I prefer on faster greens, and the Wilson on slower greens. Fortunately, I have access to 4 courses in Florida, and they do have different green speeds, so both Garsen Golf longer grips were going to get a good test over multiple rounds.
My first review is on the Garsen Golf Ultimate 17, which I have now used for 7 rounds of golf. The Ultimate 17 is awesome. So awesome that a fellow golfer saw me making so many putts he went home and ordered one. The Ultimate 17 has a great feel to it and I felt like I had total control over every putt. I was making more putts from long and short range with it and when I missed, I almost always had a tap it. I think over the 7 rounds I had approximately 6 3-putts total. This was being played on some fast greens with average slope to them, and I felt like I could make everything. Overall, I was very impressed.
Next, I used the Quad Tour Pistol PRO 17 for about 8 rounds and these were slightly slower green speeds. Not slow, just not as fast as my regular course I play. I like the feel of the flat front on it, it was slightly tacky, and I could feel how much more balanced the putter felt in my hands. I played very well with the Quad Tour Pistol PRO 17 and I would say better than normal. With the Quad Tour Pistol PRO 17 I felt like I had more confidence with the longer grip.
My review is based again on my personal preference, as I must say I was extremely impressed with both Garsen Golf longer grips. I now prefer a longer Garsen Golf grip to a standard sized grip on my putter. The Ultimate 17 was amazing and I had my best putter rounds with it, so if I had to choose just one that would be it. However, the Quad Tour Pistol PRO 17 was also excellent and I putted extremely well with that also, I think I just prefer the round shape of the Ultimate 17.
Bottom line, if you have never tried a longer grip on your putter, I highly encourage you to try a Garsen Golf long grip as they are excellent! If you prefer a round grip, the Ultimate 17 is for you and if you prefer a flat front the Quad Tour Pistol PRO 17 would be ideal. Both long grips are terrific and will help with control, distance, balance and confidence with every putt. Garsen Golf also has a great selection of standard size grips, so they offer a grip for everyone.
