Gary Kristen warns PCB regarding Shaheen Afridi’s workload

Pakistan cricket team’s head coach, Gary Kristen has warned the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) regarding the workload of Pakistan’s star speedster Shaheen Shah Afridi before the upcoming Test series against England.

Afridi is currently featuring in the Champions Cup where he is representing Lions in the Champions One Day-Cup, bowling 19.5 overs so far at an average of 24.

Shaheen was recently rested for the second Test match of the two-match Test series against Bangladesh, reason being the management of workload. Pakistan is currently preparing for an upcoming three-match Test series against England, where Afridi will turn out to be a match-turner for the Pakistan team.

Speaking about Shaheen’s workload, Gary Kristen noted that both him and Naseem have taken a significant burden for Pakistan in different formats. And as a result, both should be given proper rest.

“Fast bowlers are always under immense pressure to deliver and win games. When we look at our key resources, Shaheen Afridi and Naseem Shah have carried the bulk of the workload for Pakistan across all formats,” Gary said while doing commentary during the Champions Cup game.

“I saw a stat the other day that Shaheen has bowled three times more overs than any other fast bowler in the world over the last 18 months. That’s alarming – you’re bound to wear him down eventually,” he added.
