Gautam Gambhir Opens up About his Team’s ‘Most Important Factor’ in Meeting with BCCI

Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) recently held an hour long virtual meeting with Team India’s newly appointed head coach Gautam Gambhir, where they talked about Gambhir’s vision regarding Team India’s future, according to a report. The topic of discussion was regarding the squad for the upcoming series against Sri Lanka. According to a report, the meeting included members of Ajit Agarkar’s selection committee, Gambhir, and BCCI secretary Jay Shah.

Due to senior players like Virat Kohli and Jasprit Bumrah being expected to take rest, an opportunity will open up for newer players such as Shreyas Iyer and KL Rahul, as they were not able to play in the squad for the T20 World Cup.

It has also been reported that though captain Rohit Sharma is expected to miss this series, there are slight indications that he might adjust and be available for the series.

Also, with vice-captain Hardik Pandya not being able to be present for the selection in the ODI series, KL Rahul and Suryakumar Yadav may be chosen to lead the side in this series. There are also some concerns for Hardik Pandya’s take for captaincy because of his history of injuries.

The report further added that the meeting also saw Gambhir, who was attending the meeting virtually from his home in New Delhi. Gambhir laid down the simple idea of the type of players he wants in the squad, with commitment being one of the most important factors.

The India vs Sri Lanka white ball series begins on July 27 where three T20 Internationals and three One Day Internationals will take place.
