Two names that often pique the curiosity of cricket enthusiasts are Virat Kohli and Gautam Gambhir. Having started their careers playing for Delhi, these cricketers made headlines time and again for their on-field clashes. They were also part of the same team that won the 2011 World Cup. Even as their cricket-related tiffs have been widely publicized, Gambhir has always insisted to have unbounded admiration for Kohli.
“I think what kind of a relationship I share with Virat Kohli is something between two mature individuals. On the essence of it, every player has the right to fight for his jersey on ground and then come back to a winning dressing room,” Gambhir had said when he took over as Indian coach.
“But at this point in time while they are representing India, representing 140 crore Indians even I am sure we will be on the same page trying our best to make India proud,” he added.
This is quite interesting because Piyush Chawla played with both of them and there’s an interesting story behind that.
“The best part about Gauti bhai, do you know? He will inspire you; give you a free hand to work and support you in every possible manner. If he notices some talent in you, then even if you flopped during all 14 games, he will keep supporting you. If you possess that ability, he will be behind you which is an extraordinary thing for a player,” Chawla mentioned while talking to Shubhankar Mishra on YouTube.
“I played under him for 4-5 years – actually we played together in India and India A – it’s so lovely when he comes on the ground with all his aggression but off it he is very polite. I have never had as much fun interacting with anyone else apart from him. Gauti bhai is one of the most wonderful individuals I have encountered in my life.”
“Gauti bhai and I were hosting a show. Somebody asked, “Which bowler did Virat take his single off when reaching his 50th century?” I could not answer that question but Gambhir did. And then he said “Now don’t say anything about tiffs” like ‘Gauti bhai is absolute class personified’. He remains one among the best.”
