Gavaskar Supprts Yadav, Slams Aussie Paper Over Catch Doubts

It’s past five days Team India lifted the T20 World Cup 2024 after a long wait. The entire nation is celebrating the resilience of the world champions. In the final match, India beat South Africa and lifted the trophy along with an unbeaten streak. In the match, Suryakumar Yadav’s catch in the last over while dismissing David Miller caught a lot of controversy. Now, former Indian captain Sunil Gavaskar backed the Indian batter.

Suryakumar Yadav’s Sensational Catch:

In a thrilling finale between India and South Africa at the T20 World Cup, the match reached an intense moment with 16 runs needed off the last over. Hardik Pandya, bowling the crucial over, delivered a low-full toss on the first ball. South African batsman David Miller attempted a big shot, aiming for a maximum over long-off. However, Suryakumar Yadav, positioned near the boundary, showcased remarkable fielding acumen. He leaped, grabbed the ball, and initially juggled it in the air before ensuring he stayed within the playing field.

Social media buzzed with videos showing how close Yadav’s feet were to the boundary cushion during the catch. The incident sparked viral discussions as some clips appeared to suggest the boundary cushion might have shifted during Yadav’s catch. This event added a controversial twist to an already dramatic match, where India secured the victory.

Gavaskar’s Support to Suryakumar:

Sunil Gavaskar, a renowned batting legend, has voiced his support for Suryakumar Yadav and criticized an Australian newspaper for doubting the legitimacy of Yadav’s outstanding catch. Gavaskar’s remarks highlight his defense of Yadav’s fielding prowess amidst controversy surrounding the catch during the recent match, emphasizing the importance of fair assessment in sports reporting.

Gavaskar said, “There was also a question raised in an Australian paper about the fairness of the catch that Suryakumar Yadav took to dismiss David Miller in the final. All the replays were quite clear that SKY had done a marvelous balancing act as he took the catch and flicked the ball up in the air before he crossed the boundary rope and then jumped in the air and caught the ball within the boundary to complete a fabulous catch.”

Later he added, “Nobody questioned the catch, but the writer of the article did. He may be interested to see the video floating around of the 10 most blatant cheating acts done by the Aussies before trying to point a finger at SKY. Pot calling the kettle black indeed.”
