Former allrounder Gavin Hamilton has been appointed as the new general manager of cricket at Yorkshire County Cricket Club. Hamilton, who played a Test for England in 1999 and had a notable career with Scotland, replaces Darren Gough in this leadership role. Oversight of Men’s and Women’s Teams
One of Hamilton’s key responsibilities will be managing both the men’s and women’s teams at Yorkshire.Â
The men’s team is on the verge of promotion to Division One of the County Championship, while the women’s team is set to compete in Tier 2 of the new domestic structure.Â
Yorkshire’s women’s team will aim to earn their place in Tier 1 by 2026. Hamilton expressed his commitment to fostering talent across both teams and is keen on supporting the club in achieving long-term success.
Hamilton, 50, is set to begin his role on November 1, 2024. Having played over a decade for Yorkshire, where he contributed more than 2000 runs and took over 200 wickets, Hamilton brings a wealth of experience to the role.Â
His career highlights include being part of the Yorkshire team that won the County Championship in 2001.Â
After retiring from cricket, he pursued ventures outside the sport, including positions at Caledonian Brewery, the Professional Cricketers’ Association, and Pure Co.

Hamilton has expressed excitement about returning to Yorkshire, where he spent over a decade as a player.

Yorkshire’s interim chief executive, Sanjay Patel, praised Hamilton’s mix of cricket knowledge and business expertise, which made him a standout candidate during the selection process.
With Essex’s Anthony McGrath tipped as the favourite for the men’s head coach position, Hamilton will work closely with the new coach to lead Yorkshire forward, striving for success both on and off the field.
