Gillian Robertson is looking to make a statement at UFC Vegas 114.
Robertson is set to take on Amanda Lemos in the co-main event in a pivotal fight at strawweight. The two were supposed to fight back in December, but on the day of the event, Lemos was pulled from the bout, and the UFC immediately got to work on rebooking the two.
“If we want to look even further back, I was offered Yan in August, and they wanted me on the Vancouver card in October,” Robertson said on Just Scrap Radio on BJPENN.com. “Then, I got the Lucindo fight, then Lemos. And then four hours before I was supposed to head to the venue, I got told Lemos was out. We are back at it again and back in a fight camp.”
Although Robertson was ready to fight in December, she said after not getting to fight, she wanted to take some time to make sure her body fully recovered from the weight cut.
“They offered to turn us around in February,” Robertson said. “But, I have to cut weight again, so I needed a couple of weeks to let my body recover from the weight cut. … At this point, I don’t know if I want the Amanda fight rebooked, I’m nervous about it happening at this point. But, I want to prove I’m the best in the world, so I’ll fight anyone.”
Gillian Robertson eyes stoppage win against Amanda Lemos
Once Robertson took some time off, she got right back into camp and began preparing for Amanda Lemos again.
Gillian Robertson knows Amanda Lemos is a tough out for anyone, especially on the feet. But, she has full confidence she will be able to take the Brazilian down and get a submission win.
“That is always the goal. I don’t get paid for the full 15 minutes. I’m trying to get out of there as quickly as possible, get paid, and fight again as soon as possible,” Robertson said.
If Robertson gets her hand raised and does so by stoppage, she believes she could very well earn the next title shot against Mackenzie Dern.
“I think if Weili is ready to come back, she deserves it before I do. Other than that, I think I can make a good argument that I deserve the next title shot. I think everybody wants to see Mackenzie and me against each other, the two best women’s grapplers fighting each other,” Robertson concluded.
But, before that can happen, Robertson needs to beat Lemos on Saturday night at UFC Vegas 114.
