Girl power growing at BATTS

BATTS in Harlow is building on its record of hosting a range of high-quality table tennis by staging its first ever girls-only event.

Among the most popular events during the past decade have been Junior Open tournaments. The BATTS Junior Opens are always over-subscribed, with players travelling long distances to participate, sometimes even from overseas.

Developing that format, the Girls Only 1* Open, is on Sunday 5 July, giving opportunities for girls aged from Under-11 to Under-19, of all levels, to experience a fast-moving day of table tennis.

Organiser Graham Frankel says that entries began arriving as soon as the form was published, and within two weeks he’d received entries from eight different clubs covering five different counties.

A key member of the organising team is Linda Radford, formerly the No 2 England Senior. Linda is now using her extensive background in high level competition by refereeing junior tournaments, including this one at BATTS.

Graham and Linda are combining their experience to make this an enjoyable and challenging day for those girls lucky enough to secure a place. A cash prize fund of £300 will attract a strong entry, but the tournament will also be ideal for girls who want to get their first taste of a formal competition.

The tournament will have separate entries for Under-11, Under-13, Under-15, Under-17 and Under-19. Click HERE for the entry form and contact Graham Frankel for more information.
