Golf advice for beginners is EVERYWHERE!
Golfers get “free golf tips” from their friends, family, YouTube, etc.
Golf is a game that takes time to learn and can be quite frustrating, but it doesn’t have to be!
Below are some easy ways to be more successful on the course than before, so here is some of our top golf advice for beginners.
What Is Some Good Golf Advice For Beginners?
Set Your Golfing Goals
Are your golfing goals to have fun or are they to be a competitive player?
Even though you may be just looking to have fun, enjoy the outdoors, and simply spend some time with friends or family. you still want to play well.
With this being said, it is very important to properly set your expectations.
An example that I often use would be… what if you did not play guitar?
If I handed you a guitar, how long would it take you to play Stairway To Heaven?
In trying to learn to play the guitar myself, I would bet a lot of money that you could not do it after a single one-hour lesson or even after a single series of lessons.
It takes time.
If you are looking to become a competitive golfer, you will probably want to get into a private lesson series.
This will allow you to work directly with an instructor, attack your main challenges, and allow you to see the fastest results.
Most professionals will have some technology like a Trackman to get a baseline or a starting point for the two of you to create an improvement plan.
In addition, this technology will help track the changes in your swing that are being made over time.
Everyone has different reasons for wanting to play golf.
But what those reasons are, is what you need to focus on as a beginner golfer.
Either way, you need to set your goals and focus on them for the best result.
Get A Series Of Golf Lessons Or Attend An Intro To Golf Clinic
Many beginning golfers use friends or family to learn how to play the game.
Although most of them are well-intended, they do not have the education or experience to know how to properly teach you how to play golf.
Others will run to YouTube and watch a BUNCH of different videos.
The challenge with this is that they are getting conflicting information from various instructors.
This gets them confused and not sure what they are working to improve.
No matter your golfing goals, the best golf advice to get started is to go to an experienced teaching professional and take a series of private golf lessons or attend an Intro To Golf class.
Which type of lessons you decide to take would be determined by your golfing goals and if you are more comfortable in a one-on-one private setting or in a group setting.
What would be considered an experienced teaching professional?
It would be a golf professional who teaches full time or a majority of the time for their job.
Here is how to find the best golf coach near you.
Just as you would not want your taxes done by someone who only practices accounting a few hours a week, you do not want to learn golf from someone who doesn’t teach it full-time. Would you?
Practice With A Purpose
If you go to any busy practice range, you will see golfers who think that they are working hard.
They are only creating motion.
What do I mean by that?
These players are making a lot of swings but… they are not getting any references.
They swing and swing and swing but after an hour, they do not know what they are doing the same thing or something different at the end of their practice.
For example, I will take a student and draw a line on the ground using two tees.
I will then ask them to make contact with the ground behind the invisible line, on the invisible line, and on the target side of the invisible line.
They usually look at me like I am crazy as that seems to be easy… until they try and do it and realize this is a skill that they need to develop.
