Hearts of Oak goalkeeper Benjamin Asare was over the moon on Sunday after helping the team to secure a narrow victory over Asante Kotoko in the Ghana Premier League.
The Black Stars’ number one shot-stopper started the Week 22 fixture for the Phobians, lasting the entire showdown and pulling off some amazing saves to ensure his team secured all three points at the end of the contest staged at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium.
Speaking in a post-match interview after he was named Man of the Match, a delighted Benjamin Asare praised his teammates for a spirited performance but acknowledged that it was not an easy game.
He stressed that the Ghana Premier League is tough, adding that it will take a lot for Hearts of Oak to claim the title at the end of the season.
“Although we have gotten the victory today, the Ghana Premier League is not easy. Our goal-scoring ability has been low, but in this match, we were determined to get a win. I will continue to do my job whenever I’m in post,” Asare said.
The Hearts of Oak goalkeeper added, “If you look at the league, any team in the 1-5 position can win the league. All is about determination on the field of play. Winning the league will be a good opportunity for us. After beating Kotoko, we have to be aggressive in our upcoming matches to ensure we win more matches.”
Following the win against Asante Kotoko, Hearts of Oak have moved to third place in the Ghana Premier League standings on 39 points, just five behind league leaders Medeama SC.
