These Indian batters played amazing knocks against the Lankan Lions in the ODI format and some of these knocks single-handedly led India to win the match
1. Gautam Gambhir – 150* in Kolkata, 2009
After Sri Lanka created a massive total of 315/6 in 50 overs, it looked as if India would succumb to the target of 317. However, thanks to Gambhir (150*) and Virat Kohli’s (107) centuries, India was able to achieve the target with 11 balls to spare. The 224-run stand between Gambhir and Kohli is still one of the highest partnerships ever formed between Indian batters in ODI cricket.
3. Sachin Tendulkar – 138 in Colombo, 2009
The Master Blaster’s heroic knock in the first innings along with half-centuries from MS Dhoni and Yuvraj Singh carried India to a humongous total of 319/5 after 50 overs. In reply, the Indian bowlers were able to bowl out the Lankan Lions for 273 runs to win the match by 46 runs. This was also the final of the Compaq Cup (tri-series between India, Sri Lanka and New Zealand) which India ended up winning.
3. Shikhar Dhawan – 132* in Dambulla, 2017
After the superb Indian bowling attack bowled out Sri Lanka for only 216 runs, Dhawan and Virat Kohli showed their class and carried India to a comfortable 9-wicket victory. Dhawan (132*) and Kohli (82*) formed a brilliant 197-run stand to take India home in only 28.5 overs.
4. Virat Kohli – 131 in Colombo, 2017
Another match where the Men in Blue proved to be too good for the Lankan Lions at their home. Batting first, India posted a huge total of 375/5 after 50 overs thanks to centuries from both Kohli and Rohit Sharma. In reply, Sri Lanka came nowhere near the target and were bowled out for only 207 runs as India went on to win the match by a massive 168-run margin.
5. Virat Kohli – 128* in Colombo, 2012
After Indian bowlers restricted Sri Lanka to a fighting total of 251/8 in 50 overs, Virat Kohli single-handedly took the game away from the Lankan Lions with an amazing century. His 146-run stand with Suresh Raina saw India achieve the target of 252 runs in only 42.2 overs.
