GT20 Canada 2024 Match 19: Montreal Tigers vs Toronto Nationals Match Report
In a one-sided affair at the CAA Centre in Brampton, the Montreal Tigers outclassed the Toronto Nationals by 7 wickets with 51 balls to spare in the 19th match of the Global T20 Canada on August 5, 2024. This match was highlighted by a sensational bowling performance from Kaleem Sana, who was named Player of the Match for his impressive figures of 4/13.
Winning the toss and opting to field first, the Montreal Tigers quickly put the Toronto Nationals on the back foot. The Nationals’ innings never got going, with wickets tumbling at regular intervals. Captain Colin Munro was the first to fall, bowled by Azmatullah Omarzai for just 1. The wickets continued to fall, with the Nationals reeling at 10/4 after just 1.6 overs, thanks to a devastating spell from Kaleem Sana, who took a hat-trick to remove Unmukt Chand, Roston Chase, and Mohammad Nawaz.
Only three batsmen managed to reach double figures, with Jatinderpal Matharu top-scoring with 12 runs off 25 balls. Extras contributed significantly to the total, adding 14 runs. The Nationals were eventually bundled out for a paltry 52 runs in just 11.1 overs.
Kaleem Sana led the bowling attack with his match-winning figures of 4/13 in 3 overs, ably supported by Azmatullah Omarzai, who picked up 3/22 in his 4 overs. Corbin Bosch also chipped in with two wickets, further dismantling the Nationals’ batting lineup.
Chasing a modest target of 53, the Montreal Tigers experienced a few hiccups but were never in any real trouble. Dilpreet Bajwa contributed 12 runs before being trapped lbw by Matharu. Skipper Tim Seifert (15* off 15 balls) and Gerhard Erasmus (4* off 14 balls) ensured there were no further alarms as they guided the Tigers to a comfortable victory in just 11.3 overs.
Despite early wickets, the Tigers’ composed approach ensured they chased down the target with ease. The victory was sealed when Seifert hit the winning runs, bringing an end to a dominating performance by the Tigers.
It shall be mentioned that the next match between Brampton Wolves and Bangla Tigers Mississauga was abandoned without a ball being bowled.
