GT20 Canada 2024 Day 7: Bangla Tigers Mississauga vs Brampton Wolves Match Report

Brampton Wolves went on to a comfortable eight-wicket victory over Bangla Tigers Mississauga in the 14th match of the Global T20 Canada at the CAA Centre in Brampton. Having been put into the field, their bowlers made good use of early breakthroughs to peg the Tigers back to a below-par 79. Led by Andrew Tye, who was adjudged the Player of the Match for returning good figures of 3 for 18, his attack was at the top of the order and set up a comprehensive win.

Bangla Tigers struggled from the beginning as Zazai was out for a duck in just the first over of the innings. Rahmanullah Gurbaz and skipper Shakib Al Hasan soon followed him. The Tigers were next in trouble with the scoreboard reading 5 for 3 and the top order back in the pavilion.

Things did not change, and the incoming players, Muhammad Waseem and Rayyan Pathan continued to lose wickets, not able to get a grip on things to steady the innings. Iftikhar Ahmed’s 19 and a late flurry from Shoriful Islam, who scored 12 from just four deliveries, somewhat stalled the rot, but Thomas Draca and Jack Jarvis ensured that there was no meaningful rescue, sharing five wickets between them.

This time the Wolves chased a small target of 80 and were already on a small hiccup when Kobe Herft was trapped leg before wicket by David Wiese for a duck in the very first over. Skipper David Warner held fort and batted sensibly for his 44 off 33, studded with six boundaries and a maximum of one six.

Jack Jarvis contributed 11 before falling to Ali Khan, but by then the Wolves were firmly in command of the proceedings. Beau Webster then came in to join Warner and completely smashed to finish the chase, scoring a sequence of 23 off 15 balls, which included four boundaries, to seal the win with 52 balls to spare.

The victory was built on Brampton’s clinical bowling performance and the composed batting of their experienced captain. Though small, the target was potentially tricky, and an unbeaten knock from Warner at the top navigated the team quite handsomely. While the Bangla Tigers were left ruing their top-order collapse and inability to forge meaningful partnerships, all that did their undoing was eventually reduced to a mere murmur.

Andrew Tye’s spell was the total highlight of the game as he bumped the Tigers’ lineup and earned himself those accolades. He jolted the Tigers early and maintained pressure to never allow them off the ground. This win just strengthened the position of Brampton Wolves in the tournament—this one is balanced and formidable side out to challenge any team.
