Fast bowler Shamar Joseph and left-arm spinner Gudakesh Motie experienced delays in joining the West Indies Test squad in England because their flight from Guyana was canceled due to Hurricane Beryl.

Despite the delays, Motie managed to arrive in London later that day, while Joseph is expected to land on Friday. Their timely arrivals ensure they will be available for the first Test match at Lord’s, starting on July 10.

The West Indies team will benefit from their inclusion, as both players bring valuable skills and experience to the squad.Shamar made headlines in January with a stunning performance in the Brisbane Test, helping West Indies draw the two-match series against Australia 1-1.

He is anticipated to play a crucial role in the series against England, joining a fast-bowling unit now led by Alzarri Joseph following Kemar Roach’s recent withdrawal due to injury.

Kavem Hodge excels on the first day of the tour game

Although July is typically summer in England, Wednesday in Beckenham was overcast and windy, prompting both locals and visitors to wear hoodies and keep their hands in their pockets. Despite the chilly weather, the West Indies team remained unaffected.

They posted 339 in their first innings, thanks to a spirited 112 from Kavem Hodge and half-centuries from Alick Athanaze, Kirk McKenzie, and Mikyle Louis, after choosing to bat. The match drew around 1200 fans, including a significant Caribbean presence.

“It’s always a dream to play that at Lord’s,” Hodge said after the day’s play.

“Something growing up as a kid that you sit and dream about, you watch a lot of cricket at Lord’s. It’s something I am looking forward to: getting the opportunity to sit and watch the game, play there with the crowd, the prestige, the home of cricket, it’s something that every cricketer aspires to do.” He added.

The England vs West Indies Test will start on 10 July at Lord’s, on 18 July at Trent Bridge, Nottingham and on 26 July at Edgbaston, Birmingham.
