Flames coughed up an early 3 goal lead, but clawed their way back to square it before the end of regulation time ahead of Cole Ully’s OT winner to secure a pair of points with a 4-3 win over the visiting Manchester Storm.
Storm jumped out to a multi goal lead early thanks to Tyler Hinam at 5:25 and Loren Ulett in the 12th minute. Hinam’s 2nd on the powerplay with 75 seconds left in the frame had the visitors enjoying a 3 goal cushion to being the middle set.
Near the midway mark, Lewis Hook opened the Flames account and cut the deficit to a pair, but the 2 goal uphill challenge was still in play to start the 3rd.
Flames had a carry over powerplay from the end of the 2nd. They couldn’t cut the gap further during that stretch. However, Tyler Busch shortly thereafter did, in fact, make it a one goal affair and Josh Nixon pulled it fully level just inside the last 10 minutes. A double minor high sticking penalty to Storm put Flames on an extended powerplay to close the game, but a late Flames penalty turned the tables forcing them to kill an overtime 3 on 4 situation before the eventual winner just under 2 minutes into the tiebreaking set.
Justin Fazio made 27 saves on 40 shots while Evan Weninger was good on 38 of 42 his way.
