Gujarat Giants appoints this IPL star as their new bowling coach

Pravin Tambe has been appointed as the bowling coach for Gujarat Giants in the next edition of Women’s Premier League (WPL). The Giants brought Tambe on board after releasing Nooshin Al Khadeer, who recently finished her two-year term contract with the team.

Tambe was in the limelight for the hat trick in 2014 for Rajasthan Royals against Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) in the Indian Premier League. He took out Manish Pandey, Yusuf Pathan and Ryan-ten-Doeschate for Royals’ victory by 10 runs.

“Joining Gujarat Giants as the Bowling Coach is an exciting new chapter in my cricketing journey. I’m eager to work with this talented group of players to sharpen their skills and help fold them into the best they can be,” Tambe said as he was announced for his appointment prior to mini-auction to be held December 15 in Bengaluru.

Meanwhile, the Giants retained Michael Klinger as their head coach. Klinger took over from former Australia Women’s left-hander Rachael Haynes into the Giants’ setup. Klinger had previously served as the head coach for Melbourne Renegades in the BBL and Sydney Thunder in the WBBL.

“We laid quite a bit of groundwork last season, and I cannot wait to build on that with the talented players we have retained in the squad. Our focus still remains on fostering the winning mindset and pushing the boundaries of what we can achieve as a team. It is indeed wonderful and very rewarding to see so many of our Gujarat Giants players representing India since last season’s WPL. This kind of invaluable high-level experience will add to our strength against next season,” Klinger said.

The Giants have also appointed Daniel Marsh as their new batting consultant. Marsh had earlier been the Head Coach of the Tasmania Men’s team across 2013 to 2017 and was appointed in 2022 as Assistant Coach of the Australian Women’s Cricket team.

“I’m excited with joining the Gujarat Giants. I look forward to creating that fearless approach in our batting with the aim of taking our team being one of the strongest batting units across the WPL,” Marsh said.

The Giants also released Mithali Raj in their earlier action. Mithali was their mentor and advisor during the first two editions. After leaving the Giants, Mithali joined the Andhra Cricket Association.
