“Hangman” Adam Page has lost to MJF at AEW Revolution, meaning the cowboy can never again challenge for the AEW World Championship.
In a battle for the ages, Maxwell Jacob Friedman retained the AEW Men’s World Championship over “Hangman” Adam Page in the main event of AEW Revolution 2026. As per the stipulation of their Texas Death Match, Page losing doesn’t just mean that he failed to win the title, but that he can never be champion again—ever.
Page had agreed to do what Cody Rhodes had done before him, which was to put all future title opportunities on the line. Now that he’s lost, Hangman can no longer fight for that belt as long as his career goes on, no matter who is champion or what the circumstances are.
It’s important to note that in professional wrestling, you never say never and the rules are fluid. Referees sometimes reverse their decisions while other times, the same shenanigans are allowed to stay as the official ruling. A “referee’s decision is final” is only final when it needs to be final for the story, just the same as how there are sometimes interim champions for belts like Red Velvet’s ROH Women’s World Television Championship while Nick Wayne could continue holding his men’s version of that belt without defending it for months and that’s somehow a different story.
There could be any number of ways Tony Khan and AEW as a whole retcon this, and we’re not even sure exactly how it will work regarding something like the Owen Hart Foundation Tournament. Can Page even enter a match like that, or is he by default not allowed? If the roster suffers enough injuries, will Khan decide to just rescind the stipulation so he has his main character back in the title hunt? Or can Page turn heel and go back on his word as the means to nullify this story?
Then again, Rhodes never did fight for that belt again, so Page could just be out of the title hunt forever while focusing on the four midcard belts and the tag team divisions. Perhaps this was intended to be the true end to the feud between Page and MJF, with it ultimately being a tragedy at the climax to offset how Page had originally scored the first win in AEW history over MJF in their battle royal.
