India’s cricket team, led by Shubman Gill, won their series against Zimbabwe 4-1. Now, they are preparing for their upcoming matches in Sri Lanka, which start on July 26. Some key players like Jasprit Bumrah, Hardik Pandya, and Rishabh Pant did not play in the Zimbabwe series because the cricket board wanted them to rest after their successful performance in the T20 World Cup 2024. It’s not clear yet if all of them will play in the Sri Lanka series.
According to reports, Hardik Pandya might become the captain for the T20 matches against Sri Lanka, with Suryakumar Yadav as his vice-captain. Other players from the winning T20 World Cup team, like Axar Patel, Kuldeep Yadav, and Arshdeep Singh, are also expected to be selected for the Sri Lanka series.
Players like Mohammed Siraj, Jasprit Bumrah, and Rishabh Pant are not likely to be added to the team again soon.
The three-game T20 series begins on July 27 and ends on July 30. The ODI series will start on August 2. It will be interesting to watch if other experienced players such as Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma, who have stopped playing T20 matches, will come back for the ODI series next month.
The series also marks the start of Gautam Gambhir’s time as the head coach of Team India. Gambhir has a very different personality compared to Rahul Dravid, who decided not to continue as Team India’s head coach after the recent T20 World Cup.
Team India’s likely T20I squad for Sri Lanka series: Shubman Gill, Yashasvi Jaiswal, Suryakumar Yadav (VC), Sanju Samson (WK), Hardik Pandya (C), Axar Patel, Rinku Singh, Kuldeep Yadav, Avesh Khan, Arshdeep Singh, Ravi Bishnoi, Dhruv Jurel (WK), Washington Sundar, Abhishek Sharma, Shivam Dube, Harshit Rana
