India’s captain Harmanpreet Kaur had a fantastic beginning in the Women’s Asia Cup on Friday. Her team easily beat Pakistan by seven wickets at the Rangiri Dambulla International Stadium.
Harmanpreet did an excellent job as captain during the match. She made smart decisions about the bowlers, which led to Pakistan’s batting lineup being quickly defeated with only 108 runs.
In response, India smoothly reached the target. Harmanpreet also surpassed her previous leader, Mithali Raj, to become the top scorer in the Women’s Asia Cup (T20I).
Before the game, Harmanpreet needed four runs to surpass Mithali’s total, and she scored five runs without being dismissed. She assisted India in achieving the target with 35 balls remaining.
Mithali last played in the Women’s Asia Cup (T20I) in 2018, where she scored a total of 402 runs in 10 matches. She had an average of 67.00 with the bat, including three scores of 50 or more, and scored her runs at a rate of 96.63.
Meanwhile, Harmanpreet now has 404 runs in the T20I format of the Women’s Asia Cup. The right-handed batter averages 36.72 in the tournament and has scored runs at a rate of 100.49, including one half-century.
