Harry Kane Bayern Munich contract talks alert Man United

Harry Kane Bayern Munich contract talks alert Man United

Harry Kane is not going anywhere just yet, but comments from Bayern Munich honorary president Uli Hoeness have been enough to set pulses racing among a number of Premier League clubs.

Hoeness admitted publicly that Kane could be tempted by a big-money offer from Saudi Arabia despite being settled and happy in Bavaria, and that admission has opened a conversation that clubs including Manchester United are now paying close attention to.

Contract talks between Kane and Bayern have not progressed to a conclusion, which adds another layer of intrigue to a situation that many assumed was settled.

Former Manchester United chief scout Mick Brown told Football Insider that Premier League clubs would be foolish not to take note. Kane’s current deal runs until 2027, and while he is still widely expected to eventually sign an extension, the lack of concrete progress and Hoeness’s candid remarks have changed the temperature around his future considerably. Brown’s reading of the situation is straightforward insisting that where there is smoke, there is at least the possibility of fire.

The numbers this season make it even harder to look away. Kane has scored 48 goals and provided five assists across 40 appearances for Bayern Munich in 2025-26, a return that is simply staggering for any striker at any level.

He is in the middle of a record-breaking Bundesliga campaign, and at 32 he shows no signs of slowing down. For any Premier League club looking to add a genuinely elite centre-forward, the prospect of bringing Kane back to England is almost impossible to dismiss.

A release clause in his contract was active earlier this year, initially valued at £56 million, and Manchester United were among the clubs alerted to its existence. That clause has since expired without being triggered, meaning Kane will remain at Bayern until at least 2027. But that does not close the door entirely — it simply shifts the conversation to what might happen when that deal expires, or whether Bayern and Kane can find terms they both agree on before then.

United’s history with Kane is well documented. They attempted to sign him from Tottenham before his move to Bayern Munich in 2021, and Football Insider reported last summer that the club had been keeping tabs on him as part of a longer-term plan. The interest has never fully gone away, and Brown made clear that if the situation develops further, United would be remiss not to at least explore the possibility.

“Whoever it may be, Man United maybe or any other club, if Kane is considering leaving Bayern Munich they would be silly not to be having a look,” Brown told Football Insider. “He might want to return to England and have a go at breaking Shearer’s record – that was all the talk when he was leaving Tottenham.”

Alan Shearer’s all-time Premier League record remains the one target that could genuinely tempt Kane back, and at 32 with his scoring rate still extraordinary, it is not as unrealistic a prospect as it might seem.

Despite the excitement generated by Hoeness’s comments, the reality is that Kane and his family are settled and happy in Germany. Brown acknowledged as much, telling Football Insider: “By all accounts, I think he’s happy at Bayern and that’s probably not going to change, but if there is a suggestion he could leave, the interest will be there.”

United are currently considered outsiders in any potential race for his signature, and Saudi Arabia remains a more credible threat to Bayern’s hold on him than any English club at this stage.
