Team India under Gautam Gambhir is expected to achieve remarkable success, and former coach Rahul Dravid has echoed this sentiment. After retiring from the position of coach following their T20 World Cup triumph in West Indies, Gambhir took over the reins for Dravid’s last international assignment to Sri Lanka between July and August.
On Thursday, Dravid who was speaking to some journalists at ‘Roombr’ launch revealed that he expected Gautam Gambhir who took over from him to handle national duties quite well.
“He(Gambhir) has got plenty of experience, having also played a lot, and he has coached considerably,” said Dravid.
“Every individual experiences their own history in any situation. I’m certain that the team will get everything that Gautam brings to them with his group,” he added.
Under Dravid, the Indian team reached the final of both the ODI World Cup and World Test Championship. On Thursday Gambhir leads India in Test season for which they are going to have 10 test matches over the next four months two of which will be against Bangladesh and three others with New Zealand before heading towards the five match series down under Australia.
In contrast, Gambhir believes that India should have varied strategies and not try to rely only on different pitches or anything else external because it would limit their progress.
“I’ve always believed that winning is the only thing,” he said, just before the beginning of the first test against Bangladesh. “We want to be a team which changes rapidly instead of using one style for long. If you have got a single style then there is stagnation,” Gambhir added.
“We want guys to be playing the situation, the conditions and then keep growing. You know all this giving a name to a certain style is like playing only one way. So, attempting it’s all about results and giving the best as I just mentioned, the best style is the style that works,” he noted.
