It would be fair to say that Jasprit Bumrah has firmly established himself in the upper echelons of contemporary pace bowlers. There are likely to be very few individuals who would disagree with Bohmar’s stature within India itself; over a short period, the star from his country has been able to transform into a world-beater across the formats of the game and arguably, the most dangerous bowler. Bumrah stood tall for Team India at T20 World Cup 2024 and is also perhaps even more lethal in regard to people’s ability to face him in red ball cricket. In a press conference, the Australian seasoned batsman, Steve Smith, when asked about his views on Bumrah’s statue, almost praised the young bowler before the Border-Gavaskar Trophy, stating that there is no fast bowler in the Indian subcontinent who compares to him in all formats.
The five-Test series between India and Australia begins in Perth on November 22. India has won the last two series played in Australia. Should India go for the three-peat, Bumrah’s unique skills set will be essential in the Australian tour.
“He’s a great bowler no matter how I face him be it the new ball, old ball or average ball. He has great control over all of them. He is great bowler and perhaps in the top fast bowlers in all three formats. It’s never going to be easy,” Smith said to Star Sports.
Recently, Bumrah was dubbed as the ‘Kohinoor’ of Indian cricket by some former cricketers who expressed their happiness that the focus is finally on a bowler in a batsmen crazy nation like India.
The 35-year-old Smith has been opening the innings for Australia in the last few series and will most likely do so against India as well.
Having played 109 Tests, Smith is on track to surpass the milestone scoring 10,000 runs in that series having already scored 9685 runs.
Bumrah on the other hand has fared quite impressively since he made his Test debut in January 2018 claiming 164 wickets in 37 matches averaging 20.51.
