Ravi Shastri, who was India’s coach at one point in time, has shared his thoughts on why Rohit Sharma will never ever take the depletion of his team in the ongoing New Zealand series in a casual manner. It was under Rohit that India lost a home test series to New Zealand for the very first time since the year 2012. After the second Test turned to be the last for India for a while, Rohit is reported to have requested to attend a celebration of twelve years without a single loss rather than focusing on the negativity brought about by a single series loss. However, Shastri thinks that doing so will not be the case with Rohit, she will be in pain instead.
“Rohit Sharma is a very glorified man. He will not take that in a stride. Let me assure you of that,” claimed Shastri while doing commentary for the second Test.
He also knew and understands that everyone in the Indian dressing room will be raring to go and change the situation, and especially victories.
“His body language might suggest that he’s very relaxed. But deep down, he’ll be hurting and hurting big. Not only with himself but with every Indian player in that dressing room,” Shastri added.
If we talk about Rohit Sharma’s captaincy, it is worth mentioning that a lot of criticism was directed toward him throughout the New Zealand series. Specifically, the assessment of Rohit after he decided to bat first in the first Test where a whole day was lost due to rains and rest of the game played was greatly criticized.
It has also been highlighted that Rohit’s bat has not performed well during the series. The Indian captain has scored a total of 62 runs in four innings only.
Even if this series was lost and it cut short India’s run of 18 consecutive home test series wins, Rohit was less concerned about it during the post match press conference.
“Just because we have a lost a series, I do not think there is anything we need to talk differently or do differently. But yeah, we need to find ways to come out of those situations,” said Rohit.
“There is no need for a knee-jerk reaction. However, it is important to speak to a few people discreetly and tell them where they stand and what is expected of them as a group,” Rohit further said.
India is set to play against New Zealand in the final Test starting on Friday, November 1.
