Abhishek Sharma has an upset stomach—it is reported widely. But what actually happened, and how he put himself in the situation, remained mostly unknown.
On Wednesday, in a report, the Times of India claimed that the opener has infected his stomach. And due to the worsened stomach, he sustained a high fever as well. Because of these reasons, he may miss India’s next match, which is against Namibia on February 12.
How Abhishek Sharma affected his stomach?
Tilak Varma also provided some major updates about Abhishek Sharma’s current situation. He informed the reporters that Sharma went to the hospital for the examinations. He was discharged today on February 11. Though, it is not clear whether the opener will play the February 12th match against Namibia. The management may take a final call on the batter’s future on the match day.

“”He went to the hospital for the examination. He is discharged today. We have one more day to take the call,” India batter Tilak Varma told reporters on Wednesday.
Abhishek Sharma was not ok before the India vs USA match
According to Times of India, Abhishek Sharma was looking fine before India’s first match of the ICC T20 World 2026, which was against the United States. But before the match, his health started to decrease. But the batter himself decided to play the game.
He faced only one ball and was dismissed for a golden duck. After he headed back to the pavilion, he did not return to the field. He might have eaten something in Mumbai, which affected his stomach.
“On February 6, after a net session at the Wankhede Stadium, Abhishek ate something in Mumbai that caused an upset stomach. On matchday, his condition worsened, but the batter decided to carry on and play the game,” TOI claimed in their report.
Health started to deteriorate
Abhishek traveled to Delhi for the Namibia match. Instead of any signs of improving, his health started to get worse. The stomach infection was accompanied by high fever and severe weight loss.
“It is learned that the stomach infection was aggravated and led to a high fever. The southpaw traveled with the team to New Delhi, where his condition deteriorated further,” the report further claimed.
The weather also might have caused some trouble with health. In comparison to the northern part of the country, the temperature in the southern regions is currently in an increasing state.
Over the past couple of weeks, the Indian team has played matches in Nagpur, Raipur, Guwahati, Visakhapatnam, Thiruvananthapuram, and then Mumbai, where the temperatures are on the higher side in comparison to Delhi’s weather, where the temperatures are still on a lower range. The ups and downs in temperature, often put significant effect on a human body.
If, Abhishek Sharma remains unfit to play the India vs Namibia match on February 12, then Sanju Samson can take his place in the playing combination as an opener.
