Here’s how BCCI Chief Jay Shah can become the BCCI President

The secretary of BCCI, Jay Shah has never shied away from the spotlight. The high official has been seen constantly watching and supporting team India in their matches at the ICC T20 World Cup 2024, and celebrating with the team at the Victory Parade. Here’s how BCCI Chief Jay Shah can become the BCCI President.

The International Cricket Council (ICC) will hold its Annual Conference in Colombo from July 19 to 22, but the chairman election will not be on the agenda. The new chairman will be elected in November, giving Jay Shah, a leading candidate, at least three months to decide if he wants to relocate to Dubai.

How can Jay Shah be the BCCI President in 2028

Jay Shah has remained non-committal about his interest in becoming ICC chairman, a position held by Greg Barclay for the past four years. Barclay, backed by the BCCI secretary, is eligible for another term and may want to continue. However, if Shah decides to run, he is expected to be elected unopposed.

The ICC has revised the chairman’s tenure from three terms of two years each to two terms of three years each. If Jay Shah is elected, he will serve a three-year term as ICC chairman. Following this term, according to the BCCI constitution, he will be eligible to become the president of the BCCI in 2028.

This amendment allows for a longer, more stable leadership period at the ICC while aligning with Shah’s potential future role within the BCCI. If Shah decides to run for the ICC chairmanship, his term could significantly influence both international and Indian cricket administration.

In short, If Jay Shah becomes the new ICC Chairman, he’ll serve a 3 year term there and in 2028 he’ll be eligible to become the BCCI President.
