The past few days have been going back-and-forth regarding team India’s selection for the upcoming series against Sri Lanka. This tour has significant importance as it holds the beginning of Gautam Gambhir’s time period as the new head coach. Initially, it was expected that Indian batting stars Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli would be on rest period, However, quite contrary to what everyone thought, both of them are set to participate in the 3-match ODI series.
Both Rohit and Kohli have confirmed their availability for the series. This news came as Ajit Agarkar-led BCCI’s senior selection committee is prepared to set a call via Zoom on Thursday evening. This call will finalize the squad.
The duo has agreed to return despite the initial reports of them being given some rest. Both Kohli and Rohit have played with Gambhir for the national team during latter’s playing days.
The report further suggests that the selection committee has decided to let Suryakumar Yadav lead the Indian t20I team for the 3-match series. India’s vice captain during T20 World Cup, Hardik Pandya, will most probably miss out on promotion due to there being concerns about his fitness.
meanwhile, Rohit Sharma will continue to lead the Indian side in ODI format. As team India looks to build momentum and improve their ODI team, this upcoming series will be a crucial one for team India to do so, especially when there is just a limited number of matches before next year’s Champions Trophy.
