After a modest five runs in the first innings, Kohli came back strong in the second innings, scoring an unbeaten 100, his 30th Test century, and guiding India to a dominant 295-run victory in Perth.
Former Indian cricketer Ajay Jadeja has come to the defense of Virat Kohli, responding to criticism that arose after the star batter’s lackluster performance during India’s three-match Test series against New Zealand earlier this month.
Despite struggling in the series, Kohli bounced back in a remarkable fashion during the 2024-25 Border-Gavaskar Trophy, silencing many of his doubters with a stellar performance in the first Test against Australia.

Kohli’s 15-Year Career Proves Geniuses Are Not Made Overnight: Jadeja
Speaking to ANI, Jadeja, known for his cheeky attitude, took the opportunity to take a swipe at Kohli’s critics during an event on November 30. He emphasized that a genius like Kohli isn’t defined by a single series or a few matches. Jadeja highlighted Kohli’s enduring quality, noting that such brilliance is built over years of consistent performances.
He pointed out that Kohli’s career, which spans 15 years, is a testament to his perseverance and commitment, traits that are often overlooked by people who judge athletes based on isolated incidents.
Jadeja reminded everyone that greatness isn’t achieved overnight, and true geniuses like Kohli should not be judged by fleeting moments or short-term struggles.
“The name itself says it all. If there were doubters, they can rest in peace now because geniuses aren’t born overnight. It takes years – it’s the solidity, it’s the perseverance, the commitment that you have seen over 15 years. People start judging sportsmen by one event or by one series. It just shows then that never to judge a genius, ” Jadeja said.
