Hockey1: 2025 ONE Active Hockey One League Grand Finals Wrap

The 2025 ONE Active Hockey One League reached its thrilling conclusion in Melbourne on Sunday, as four captivating contests decided the bronze and gold medal winners in both competitions. It was a day that showcased elite talent, fierce rivalries, and the emotion that defines the closing chapter of the Hockey One season.

WOMEN’S BRONZE MEDAL MATCH

NSW Pride def. Adelaide Fire 3–2

NSW Pride claimed the women’s bronze medal after a gripping encounter with Adelaide Fire. The Pride’s attacking depth shone through, with Mariah Williams leading the charge with two goals and Madii Smith adding another to give the side a well-earned edge.

Adelaide refused to go quietly, with Georgie Dowd delivering a brilliant two-goal performance to keep her team in the fight. Despite the Fire’s late push, NSW held firm defensively to close out the match and secure third place. The win marked a strong response from the minor premiers, who showed their trademark resilience and class to finish the tournament on a high.

MEN’S BRONZE MEDAL MATCH

NSW Pride def. Brisbane Blaze 10–4

NSW Pride stormed to an emphatic victory over Brisbane Blaze in a high-scoring men’s bronze medal clash. Kurt Lovett was the standout performer, scoring four goals in a commanding display that set the tone for the Pride’s dominance. Angus Callinan and Albert Beltran each added two, while Blake Govers and Michael Taylor rounded out the scoring in a complete team performance.

Brisbane’s Joel Rintala continued his outstanding season with all four of his side’s goals, but the Pride’s relentless pressure and clinical finishing proved too much to contain. The result ensured NSW finished the campaign on the podium for a second consecutive year, reaffirming their status as one of the league’s most potent attacking sides.

WOMEN’S GRAND FINAL

Perth Thundersticks def. HC Melbourne 4–2

Perth Thundersticks completed one of the great Hockey One Finals stories, defeating HC Melbourne to claim back-to-back championships. Entering finals from fourth position, Perth built momentum with every performance and saved their best for the title decider.

Madi Ratcliffe and Liné Malan each scored twice in a commanding attacking display, with Perth’s defensive organisation and swift counterattack proving decisive. Melbourne’s Aisling Utri found the net twice for the hosts, but the Thundersticks’ consistency and belief carried them over the line. The victory capped off an incredible tournament for Perth as they proved the doubters wrong delivering one of the all-time underdog stories in the Hockey One competition.

MEN’S GRAND FINAL

HC Melbourne def. Tassie Tigers 3–1

HC Melbourne capped off a superb season with a composed 3–1 win over the Tassie Tigers to secure the men’s championship. Ky Willott struck twice and Nathan Ephraums added another outstanding individual effort as Melbourne controlled key moments with precision and poise.

Tassie’s Sam McCulloch pulled one back for the Tigers, but the home side’s defensive resilience and midfield composure ensured there would be no comeback. The result was a fitting finish to Melbourne’s campaign — a balanced, high-quality team effort that delivered the ultimate reward on home turf to claim back-to-back titles.
