Hoey takes Kipketer 800 m record, Kessler from Kenenisa
BOSTON (USA, Jan 24): The 31st edition of New Balance Indoor Grand Prix marked great opening of 11th World Indoor Tour Gold series with two all-time top marks. In men 800 m Josh Hoey with great solo race after help from his brother Jaxson, improved Wilson Kipketer´s legendary World short-track record 1:42.67 from Paris World Indoors 1997 to 1:42.50. Second Filip Ostrowski improved to 1:44.68 and third Ryan Clarke Dutch indoor record 1:44.72. Earlier in the 2000 m in the last lap Hobbs Kessler beat Grant Fisher 4:48.79 to 4:49.48. It was all-time top mark (in this event no official short track WR), improving 4:49.99 of Kenenisa Bekele from 2007. Third Pieter Sisk in 4:52.41 achieved European indoor all-time best (previously Sergio Sanchez 4:52.90 im 2010).
In the final event of the day, Jereem Richards beat Noah Lyles over 300 m by 0.01 (32.14 to 32.15). More distances World leads, in women 3000 m Elle St. Pierre 8:26.54 (in first track competition since giving birth to her son in May) over Linden Hall 8:27.03 overall PB and only third Jessica Hull 8:36.03, Roisin Willis 800 m WL 1:59.59 and Dorcus Ewoi 1500 m WL 4:01.22 (third Klaudia Kazimierska 4:01.78 NR for Poland) with Danielle Williams 7.87 60 m hurdles WL.

On the men side, Cameron Myers 7:27.57 in the 3000 m WL, MR and Oceanian short-track record, 10th best performer indoor ever as fourth Nick Griggs clocked European U23 indoor record 7:32.79. Trey Cunningham equaled the WL in the 60 m hurdles 7.48 when World champion Cordell Tinch was only 5th (7.62). Winners of 60 m races were guests, Dina Asher-Smith 7.08 and Ackeem Blake 6.53. Khaleb McRae missed MR in the 400 m only by 0.04 with 45.38 win, Ireland´s Cian McPhillips surprised favourites in the 600 m (Brazier, Hoppel) with 1:16.37 600 m win. Nicole Yeargin in final stages beat Anna Hall in the 400 m (52.63 to 52.77). Technical events winners were James Carter 16.33 triple and Monae Nichols 664 long jump.
