Durham have secured the services of Barbadian fast bowler Chemar Holder for the final three matches of their County Championship campaign. The 26-year-old replaces New Zealand’s Neil Wagner, who sustained a shoulder injury in August during a fixture against Nottinghamshire.

Holder, who made his Test debut in New Zealand in December 2020, returned match figures of 2-110 in that game. He also featured in a one-day international against Bangladesh the following January.

“With international commitments and several injuries, it was crucial for us to strengthen our pace attack, and we are delighted to have signed a bowler of Holder’s calibre,” remarked Durham’s Director of Cricket, Marcus North.

Having previously played for Warwickshire in 2021, Holder boasts an impressive first-class record, taking 89 wickets in 27 matches at an average of 29.60, including five five-wicket hauls.

“It’s a great feeling to be part of Durham and to have another opportunity to play county cricket,” Holder said.

His arrival comes after Durham also announced the signing of former Warwickshire captain Will Rhodes on a three-year deal. Holder will be available for Monday’s match against Lancashire at the Riverside.

Following the Lancashire clash, Durham, currently seventh in the table, will face reigning champions Surrey at the Kia Oval on September 17 before concluding their season at home against Kent on September 26. (JC)
