NHL Rumors: Calgary Flames Waiting Patiently Right Nazem Kadri Trade Offer

Anthony Stewart: “The season has resumed, a lot of people are looking towards that trade deadline, and the Calgary Flames seem to be front and center of that. So do you see this roster looking a lot different come trade deadline? Or do you see some of these moves happening potentially in the offseason?”

Eric Francis: “Yeah, I think it’d be tough, Anthony, for them to do a whole lot. I mean, I don’t think they have a whole lot of players that are really desirable out on the open market. Like, obviously, Blake Coleman will be moved, in my opinion, and, and that’s going to be a big shake up for a team that’s really counted on him for so many years here.

I don’t, I think it’s a case of either or whether (Nazem) Kadri or Coleman goes. And I know that Coleman is much more in demand, and many more teams are interested in and can facilitate a deal for him than they can for Kadri.

So, I think Coleman goes, Kadri goes in the offseason and other than that, it would just be maybe smaller trades, maybe Ryan Lomberg gets traded for a late draft pick, maybe Brayden Pachal goes for a late draft pick. Other than that, I don’t really think it’ll be a significantly different team after the trade deadline this year.”

NHLRumors.com Note: There is a lot of talk of Nazem Kadri, Blake Coleman, Zach Whitecloud, and Ryan Lomberg being moved. Coleman and Kadri are taking up a lot of the space in the rumor mill. Francis reported that Colorado’s management, led by Chris MacFarland, was in Anaheim Sunday night to watch the Flames and Anaheim Ducks. Flames GM Craig Conroy also made the trip.

NHL Rumors: What’s Going on with the Calgary Flames?

While many think Cale Makar‘s contract extension is holding things up, it all comes down to how much Calgary is willing to retain on Kadri’s deal, which has three more years left. And is Makar really going to break the bank to win, even in a rising cap? It can be done.

Coleman is being connected to the Dallas Stars and Tampa Bay Lightning. Kadri to the Stars has been mentioned too. But the Stars, more so than the Avalanche, don’t want to add to term as they want to keep Jason Robertson.

What about MacKenzie Weegar? Is he actually in play? So many things to keep an eye on for the Calgary Flames this week.
