A full overview of all agreements signed with Liberty Media, including the contract covering the Portuguese Grand Prix.
Just a few days before Christmas, Portuguese Formula 1 fans received an early gift with the official confirmation of the Circus returning to their country. In 2027, the Portimão circuit will rejoin the calendar for the first time since 2021, the year in which the Portuguese Grand Prix was held on an exceptional basis, as it had been in 2020, due to the Covid-19 pandemic.
The event, scheduled as a replacement for the Dutch Grand Prix at Zandvoort, will also take place in 2028, with the current contract signed with Liberty Media set to expire shortly after that season.
The contracts closest to expiry
Already a regular venue for the MotoGP World Championship since 2020, Portimão is not the only circuit guaranteed a place in Formula 1 until 2028. In the same year, unless extensions are agreed, the final editions of the Singapore and Mexican Grands Prix are also scheduled, while several other events are set to disappear even earlier.
In addition to the already mentioned Dutch Grand Prix, which will leave Formula 1 at the end of the 2026 season, the Spanish Grand Prix at the Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya will also no longer be part of the calendar from 2027. Spain will nevertheless continue to host a Formula 1 race, with the Madrid Grand Prix scheduled to debut in 2026.
It is also worth noting that the Las Vegas Grand Prix is currently contracted only until 2027, while Imola will already be absent from next season’s calendar, having not been renewed as the Emilia-Romagna Grand Prix.
Staying longer in Formula 1
The Belgian Grand Prix at the historic Spa-Francorchamps circuit represents a special case. Under the contract signed earlier this year, race weekends will be held through to 2031 inclusive, exactly like the Italian Grand Prix at Monza, but only in alternating seasons: 2027, 2029 and 2031.
The record for the longest confirmed presence on the Formula 1 calendar is shared by the Austrian and Miami Grands Prix, both of which are secured until the 2041 season.
