The first time RCB qualified for the finals was in 2009. Under the leadership of Anil Kumble, RCB finished third in the points table. RCB faced the Chennai Super Kings (CSK) in the semifinals and qualified for the finals. Batting first, with the assistance of Herschell Gibbs (53 off 48) and Andrew Symonds (33 off 21), Deccan Chargers scored 143/6 in 20 overs. In reply, RCB couldn’t stitch a partnership and, as a result, fell short by six runs. The Deccan Chargers won their first IPL title, and RCB had their first disappointment.
2011 IPL Finals, RCB vs CSK
Finishing first in the points table of the IPL 2011, Daniel Vettori-led RCB was the favorite to win the title. However, the defending champions CSK shattered their dreams. The MS Dhoni side registered a mammoth 205 runs for the loss of five wickets in the finals. In the chase, RCB lost their prime batter, Chris Gayle, at zero. Virat Kohli’s (35 off 32) and Saurabh Tiwary’s (42 off 34) scores didn’t make a difference in the run chase. Hence, CSK won their second title, and RCB lost their second final.
RCB vs SRH 2016 IPL Finals At Home
RCB faced SRH in the IPL 2016 finals at home, the M.A. Chidambaram Stadium. Winning the toss, the Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) skipper, David Warner, elected to bat first. SRH constructed 208 runs against the hosts. David Warner (69 off 38), Ben Cutting (39 off 15), and Yuvraj Singh (38 off 23) contributed to the SRH innings.
While chasing, RCB openers Chris Gayle (76 off 38) and Virat Kohli (54 off 35) had a 114-run partnership. However, RCB couldn’t make a partnership after losing their openers.
