The future of the ICC Champions Trophy 2025 remains to be in the air. This all started with the BCCI informing the ICC that they wouldn’t let Team India travel to Pakistan in order to participate in the tournament.
While the BCCI have maintained their stance, the PCB have also done the same and are adamant that there will be no hybrid model where India play its matches at a neutral venue. PCB has also sent a letter to the ICC, asking them to give in writing their and BCCI’s stance.Â
According to a report in Cricbuzz, if the PCB continues to maintain its tough stance and the Champions Trophy gets affected it may result in sanctions from the ICC. If PCB withdraw, its ICC funding can be cut substantially while moving or postponing the tournament could result in the Pakistan board losing approximately USD 65 million as host fees.
Recently, the PCB upgraded venues in Karachi, Rawalpindi, and Lahore for the ICC tournament so the financial loss would hurt them even more.Â
The PCB has conveyed to the ICC that security is not an issue in the country which successfully hosted England and New Zealand recently and promised the same for the Champions Trophy which is scheduled to be played in February 2025.
The ICC is yet to respond to the PCB and was discussing the schedule with the participating teams. However, it is understood that the tournament’s launch event in Lahore has also been pushed back by the ICC.
