How to Get Suicune in Pokémon FireRed LeafGreen: Nintendo Switch

If you’re playing the Nintendo Switch release of Pokémon FireRed & LeafGreen and trying to catch Suicune, the first thing you need to check is your starter choice. Just like the other Legendary Beasts, Suicune only appears in specific save files.

You cannot obtain all three Beasts in one playthrough.

How to Unlock Suicune in FireRed & LeafGreen

Suicune will begin roaming Kanto
only if you chose Charmander as your starter Pokémon
at the beginning of the game.

To make Suicune appear, you must:

  • Defeat the Elite Four and become Champion

  • Obtain the National Pokédex

  • Complete the Sevii Islands storyline

  • Help Celio restore the Network Machine

After completing these steps, Suicune will start roaming randomly across Kanto at
Level 50.

How to Catch Suicune

Suicune does not stay in one place. It changes routes whenever you move between areas. The most efficient way to find it is to:

Like the other roaming Legendaries in Pokémon FireRed & LeafGreen, Suicune will attempt to flee on the first turn. Bring a Pokémon with Mean Look, Arena Trap, or a fast status move like Sleep to prevent escape.

If you chose Squirtle or Bulbasaur, Suicune will not appear in your game, and trading will be required.

In the Nintendo Switch version, the roaming mechanic works exactly like the original release — so patience and preparation are key.
