“I don’t think he should be kept….”former bowling coach gives a shocking statement on Mayank Yadav

A standout moment in IPL 2024 was the rise of young fast bowler Mayank Yadav, known for his impressive speed of consistently bowling at 150 kilometers per hour. His quick deliveries quickly gained him popularity.

Mayank’s ability to maintain control even at high speeds amazed the experts. Although he played only a few matches and took seven wickets, he made a strong impact while playing for Lucknow Super Giants.

It has been almost four months since the fast bowler from Delhi last played in a competitive game. A problem with his abdomen caused him to miss the rest of the season, and it seems he is still working on getting back to full fitness, as he did not participate in the first season of the Delhi Premier League or any of the Duleep Trophy teams.

People think the bowler is being carefully managed because of his youth and past injuries.

However, Paras Mhambrey, a former coach for India’s bowling team, disagrees and believes that Mayank is at an age where the more he bowls, the better he will become.

“I don’t think he should be kept out of games if he’s not fully ready,” Mhambrey said in an interview with The Indian Express. “This is the time for him to be bowling. A bowler needs to bowl often. The more you bowl, the more control you gain and the better you understand your limits. You can’t just protect him and say he might get hurt.”

Mhambrey, who used to be a fast bowler for India, believes that the 22-year-old should play in first-class cricket to better understand his own bowling skills and to be well-prepared.

“Playing one season in first-class cricket helps you understand your bowling. You’ll bowl in various conditions and be physically tested at different stages of the game. Sometimes, you’ll need to be on the field for six sessions. Being able to maintain the same intensity in the last session will boost your confidence when you play at the international level. I strongly believe Mayank needs to work hard in the domestic season,” Mhambrey said.

Mayank has participated in one first-class match, 17 List A games, and 14 T20 matches since his first competitive game in December 2021.

Although he has displayed potential, Mhambrey believes the team management should learn about his background and create a fitness plan.

“He’s just 22. His body is still growing. He’s in an age group where injuries are more likely. His body hasn’t fully developed yet. If we understand his background better, we can manage his injuries more effectively,” Mhambrey mentioned.
