Rohit Sharma started his career in T20 international cricket by winning the World Cup in 2007. Fast forward to 2024, he finished his T20 international career for India by winning another World Cup, but this time he did it as the captain. His career was a dream come true, starting and ending with World Cup victories.
Rohit is known for winning many trophies. He has led the Mumbai Indians to five IPL titles as captain and has won the T20 league six times in total—once as a player when he was part of the now-defunct Deccan Chargers.
Additionally, he has also won two Asia Cup titles as captain. Even though he has retired from T20 international cricket, Rohit has no plans to slow down. He is now focused on leading India to more victories, with several important cricket events scheduled for the next year.
At the beginning of 2025, India will participate in the Champions Trophy, and if they qualify, they could also play in the final of the ICC World Test Championship.
“I have a reason for winning five IPL trophies,” Rohit mentioned at an event in Mumbai on Wednesday. “I won’t stop because once you experience the joy of winning games and cups, you don’t want to stop. Our team will keep pushing forward and aiming for better achievements in the future.”
BCCI secretary Jay Shah has already stated that Rohit will continue to lead India in ODIs and until the end of the current WTC cycle.
Rohit noted that India’s success in various formats has been greatly influenced by people like Rahul Dravid, Ajit Agarkar, and Jay Shah.
“My goal was to change this team and focus more on creating a comfortable atmosphere for everyone to play without overthinking,” Rohit explained.
“This approach was essential. I received a lot of support from three key people: Mr. Jay Shah, Mr. Rahul Dravid, and the chairman of selectors, Ajit Agarkar. Their help was crucial for my success. Also, I can’t forget the players who joined us at various times and contributed to our achievements,” he continued.
