I hope that we never end up like Arsenal fans

I have to thank the Arsenal fans for cheering me up.

Gutted that Newcastle United didn’t even get a point against Aston Villa, I then watched the match from the Emirates.

I headed home rather than to the pub, not because I was in the huff, more due to the fact that there has been so many home matches to go to recently and I felt it was maybe taking it a bit too far if I stayed out on a(nother!) post-match epic.

Anyway, I got to watch that Gunners game at home, with the sound on, not in the pub, so I could hear what passes for atmosphere at the Emirates.

As you no doubt are aware, Arsenal lost 3-2 to Man U on Sunday.

I thought the Arsenal fans had been pretty shocking throughout the match but that was really topped off at the end.

The referee blowing the final whistle.

Which then prompted the Arsenal fans to boo Mikel Arteta and his players. That will teach them to dare to lose a match!

Please don’t EVER let Newcastle United fans end up like Arsenal fans.

Before yesterday, Arsenal fans hadn’t seen their team lose at home this season, in any game, in any competition.

Mikel Arteta and his players had played 16, won 14, drawn two and lost none. I know you can get used to winning and not getting beat, take it for granted, but come on!

Booing your manager and players after their first home defeat since early May 2025!!

It gets worse/better.

Arsenal fans have seen their team win all seven Champions League matches and are guaranteed to finish top of the Swiss League phase.

Arsenal fans have seen their team at the top of the Premier League table pretty much the entire season and are still four points clear.

Arsenal fans have seen their team progress in the FA Cup and are in the fourth round next month.

Arsenal fans have seen their team win at Chelsea in the first leg of the Carabao Cup semi-final and all but guaranteed to be at Wembley in March.

Before Sunday, in all competitions, home and away, Arsenal fans had seen their team pay 34 matches, win 27 of them, draw five and lose two.

They make it three defeats (and 27 wins!!!) in 35 and are booed off…you couldn’t make it up.

I never thought I would see the day when I felt (almost!!) sorry for Mikel Arteta BUT here we are.

It isn’t a one-off of course, the campaign by Arsenal fans to force out Arsene Wenger was beyond belief, the disrespect and lack of gratitude on another level.

More recently, I was watching three weeks ago when Arsenal were home to title challengers Aston Villa, the Arsenal fans booed Mikel Arteta and their team off at half-time, for the heinous crime of drawing 0-0 at the break.

Arsenal went on to smash Villa 4-1. No doubt the Arsenal fans will claim they inspired their manager and team to that victory, by booing them off at half-time.

It would be just the best thing ever, if just at the point where Mikel Arteta looks set to now deliver the big trophies, the Arsenal fans then undermine it all and everything crashes down.

Here’s hoping.
