“I want to inspire young girls”: Deepti Sharma – Sports News Portal

Veteran India Women’s team all-rounder, Deepti Sharma has expressed her desire to inspire young girls to pursue sport in the future. She shared her thoughts while speaking at the launch of a report on women’s participation in sport by the BBC and Collective Newsroom.
During the event, Deepti said she hopes to motivate the next generation. “I want to inspire as many young girls so the next generation gets more encouragement.”
The off-spinner also spoke about the positive changes she has witnessed over the years and described her journey in the sport as rewarding. She said, “It has been a good journey so far.” She further added, “As I have seen, many women in India and around the world are getting support through initiatives like this. It feels good that so many awardees have come from India.”
Sharma also pointed out that the success and growing visibility of women’s cricket and other sports have encouraged more people to dream about pursuing sport professionally.
According to her, major international tournaments have helped shift public perception and motivate aspiring athletes. “After the World Cup, there have been many changes in everyone’s mindset. Whether it is a young girl or an adult, many now dream of becoming a cricketer or participating in sport,” she said.
In 2025, Deepti Sharma played a pivotal role in helping India win their first-ever Women’s Cricket World Cup 2025 title. Her all-round performances earned her the Player of the Tournament award.
