Ishan Kishan has started on the comeback trail following six months filled with turmoil, during which he not only lost his spot in all three national teams but also discontinued the central contract, wanting back into the national squad once again. This year in December; Ishan last represented India; thus when he talked about how intense rivalries exist amongst Indians when one looks at people like Rishabh Pant (who just keeps getting better) as well as Sanju Samson (who also looks decent). that catapulted them into selectors’ thoughts for the T 20 World Cup. Even for the Zimbabwe series Ishan Kishan was not picked by Selectors and young players like Dhruv Jurel, and Jitesh Sharma were picked over him.
Ishan told the Indian Express that he was happy to see Pant back in the international team, and in style too. According to him as far as the ‘competition’ goes, Kishan is prepared to take on everyone else, hoping to return to the squad in all formats.
“I was thrilled to see Rishabh in the field again. You always relish a contest and competing with all the top cricketers in the world just betters your game. You feel you’ve earned it when you do. I am not naïve-it’s going to be a trouble-free path. However, competing makes you feel content with yourself. For me, I love it. I also do not worry.” He told the press.
Ishan stated that in terms of his national team desires, he pictures himself in all three aspects as was the situation before he took a break. He said, “I see myself playing in all three formats. Across the T20Is, ODIs and Tests have proven that I am good enough for myself at least. For all three formats I want to be part of them.”
“I keep fit and get ready for the upcoming tournaments. I would like to concentrate more on the here-and-now, rather than thinking too much about what is going to come next in my life,” he added.” At this time I am less pre-occupied with who I was six months ago so much as how I can improve myself as a player than then through some other way; so many other things compete for my attention right now! One way would be to try out new stroke-making techniques while the other involves improving my wicket-keeping skills. Instead of dwelling on past happenings or future possibilities which are beyond our control anyway; we could pay more attention to these crucial aspects.. I am looking forward to the start of the domestic season.”
