The victory in the T20 World Cup 2024 was very important for the Indian cricket team, especially after they had lost the World Test Championship final and the ODI World Cup 2023 to Australia. Everyone in India was counting on the team led by Rohit Sharma, and this time, they didn’t let the fans down. They had an exciting win against South Africa, which was their first T20 World Cup win in 17 years. This win was also a great way to finish Rahul Dravid’s time as the head coach. The T20 World Cup was his last tournament, and he shared how a phone call from Rohit Sharma kept him from quitting after the loss in the 2023 World Cup final.
“I wasn’t certain about continuing after the 50-over World Cup, and while there was joy in having a great ODI World Cup, there was also disappointment for not winning. Rohit Sharma called me and suggested we try again in 6 to 8 months. It would be great to give it another shot together,” Rahul Dravid shared at a celebration event at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai on Thursday.
“That was the best phone call I’ve ever received,” he added.
Dravid also expressed gratitude to the fans for their support and mentioned that he would miss everything as his tenure as the head coach of the Indian cricket team ended.
“I will miss this affection. Today’s event was amazing. Cricket is what it is because of the fans and people. We are truly grateful to them,” Dravid concluded.
