Ian Machado Garry provides update on potential Islam Makhachev title fight

UFC welterweight Ian Machado Garry has provided an update on a possible clash between him and Islam Makhachev.

For the longest time now, Ian Machado Garry has been working his way up through the welterweight division with the intention of eventually becoming world champion. Outside of a narrow loss to Shavkat Rakhmonov, in which he impressed a lot of people, he hasn’t really had too many setbacks since joining the Ultimate Fighting Championship.

Now, it’s being heavily rumored that Machado Garry will be the first man that Islam Makhachev will defend his UFC welterweight title against later this year. There has been no official announcement, but outside of Kamaru Usman, this is one of the main contenders that really makes sense as a challenger.

In a recent post on Instagram, Machado Garry provided a pretty interesting update on taking on Makhachev.

“I’m ready… He needs more time. Imagine being the number one pound for pound fighter on the planet and needing MORE time.”

The Irishman hasn’t been shy about his championship desires, and after recently heading to Georgia for training, the thought process from fans is that he is actively working to improve his wrestling game – which he certainly needs to do if he’s going to hang with Makhachev.

Either way, Islam’s future is something that fans are pretty invested in, mainly because as Machado Harry said, he’s the pound for pound best in the world right now.
